World Health Day 2024

World Health Day 2024

Every year on 7th April, the world comes together to celebrate World Health Day, a global observance initiated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise awareness about health-related issues and promote healthier living. As we commemorate World Health Day, it's essential to reflect on the significance of health and well-being in our lives.

The History of World Health Day

World Health Day was first celebrated in 1950, marking the anniversary of the founding of WHO. Since then, it has served as an annual opportunity to focus on health concerns affecting people worldwide.

It's important to prioritise health and well-being in our daily lives. Some simple yet effective way to promote a healthier lifestyle include:

  • Maintain a Balanced Diet: Opting for nutritious foods that provide essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Incorporating plenty of fruit, nuts, vegetables and whole grains is an excellent way to keep a balanced diet while limiting processed foods and sugary snacks.
  • Stay Active: Regular physical activity is great for maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases. Just over 2 hours (150 minutes) a week of moderate exercise is the ideal range.
  • Get Adequate Sleep: You may not think it, but quality sleep is very important for overall health and cognitive function. Aim 7-9 hours of sleep per night and establish a consistent sleep schedule to optimise restorative rest.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to maintain hydration and support bodily functions. Limit consumption of sugary beverages and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration and adverse health effects.
